Alright, men, I’m about to share a few necessary skills women look for in a guy. So, listen up.
First, you need to have social skills. That doesn’t mean you have to work a room like you’re running for president; it just means you have to be able to adapt to a new environment and look like you’re enjoying yourself. Have a smile on your face, engage in small talk and look good while you’re doing it.
Second, you need to have age-appropriate drinking skills. That doesn’t mean drinking as much as you can as fast as you can. It means doing the math in your head; calculate how many hours you’ll be out and then pace yourself accordingly. You can be sexy as hell, but if you’re falling over drunk and slurring, you could be the last guy on Earth and most women wouldn’t go near you.
Moving on, intelligence is important. Not Einstein-smart, but it is attractive if you are skilled in something: sports, home repairs, mechanics, landscaping…whatever. Your interests and passions will set you apart from the rest, but there is a fine line. It’s a tricky balancing act between having your own interests and also being genuinely interested in your partner.
You may have already figured out women like to talk and also insist on being heard. So, listening is a huge skill you need to possess. Actively listening, I might add. Making eye contact and nodding your head is not enough. You need to actually listen, process what is being said and then respond. Your response should have to do with the specific topic being talked about, not something completely off the wall because you will only prove you have tuned her out.
Along with listening, communicating effectively is also a critical skill. Guys who can share what is on their mind, express how they’re feeling, discuss current topics and expand on their answers is our version of a sexy James Bond kind of guy.
Last, but not least, it doesn’t matter what kind of car you drive if you don’t know how to manage your money. Women want a man who can pay his bills on time, use credit cards wisely, save money and budget when needed. At the same time, we want you to splurge on a nice bottle of wine or surprise us with an unexpected gift.
Master all of the above and I promise we’ll keep you around. Chances are if you can talk, listen, fix the sink and buy a gift you’ll get a woman who can cook, clean and watch football all while wearing a tube top, daisy dukes and high heels.
