A while back I Tweeted this question:
Poll: You open your car door and it may hit a nearby car. To save the car door, you must drop your phone. Which do you sacrifice? Why?
Answers came in for days declaring your hardcore love for your phones. I mean, you people are willing to take a bullet for your little electronic lifeline, that much was obvious. There were also many of you that reminded the rest of us that karma is a real thing, and to sacrifice your own belongings before someone else’s.
And, of course, there was the funny guy who had what he thought was the perfect solution:
@Moooooog35: Ha! Trick question. You throw your two children into the paths of the door and the phone, saving both.
Whichever solution you side with, this topic really got the conversation going and reminded me of my dear friend that actually broke her face in attempt to save her iPhone, which she had just repaired a month earlier. It didn’t work. She broke her nose and newly repaired iPhone.
What does this say about our society that a mere gadget — a lifeless object — means so much to us? I have to be honest, I can’t be away from it for more than five minutes and usually when I drop it, I see my life flash before my eyes.
How can our phones be more addictive than Starbucks? Maybe the question I should be asking is … if you HAD to give up one, would you give up coffee or your iPhone? Can’t wait to hear what you choose and why!
