Thanks to the third annual Bricks and Ivy Ball, the Chicago Cubs Charities can add $1.2 million to their scoreboard. The homerun event drew more than 800 guests to Navy Pier’s Grand Ballroom (600 E. Grand) April 11. An all-star line up of attendees — including Tom Ricketts, Theo Epstein, Ernie Banks and Kerry Wood — turned up to support the organization, which funds programs geared toward youth sports access and improvements in health, fitness and education for at-risk kids. The evening included a heartfelt video that showed players Darwin Barney, David DeJesus, Anthony Rizzo and Jeff Samardzija interviewing Chicago youth who’ve been helped by the Cubs Charities, dinner and live and silent auctions.
The Sun-Times was the media sponsor of this event. The Sun-Times Foundation and The Chicago Community Trust will match every dollar donated to Chicago Cubs Care, up to a total of $50,000. Up to $1,000 can be matched per individual donation.
