The Museum of Broadcast Communications (360 N. State) spread the news June 20, hosting the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights’ Out of Many, One — E Pluribus Unum benefit. Guests, including Amalia Rioja, Lisa Madigan, Toni Preckwinkle and Tom Cross, toasted the organization’s 27th anniversary while Esther Lopez, Clare Muñana and Erku Yimer were honored for their trailblazing work in advancing immigrant rights. The Center for Community Change, the Four Freedoms Fund and Illinois Highway Safety Coalition were also honored for their efforts toward the movement. Guests danced the night away to the sounds of Occidental Brothers Dance Band International and Ida y Vuelta. Proceeds from the evening benefit advocacy for immigrant services in Illinois.
The Sun-Times was the media sponsor of this event. The Sun-Times Foundation and the Chicago Community Trust will match every dollar donated to the Immigration Coalition and Refugee Group, up to a total of $5,000. Up to $1,000 can be matched per individual donation.
