The scene: Guests reveled in culinary creations by Chicago’s top chefs and witnessed live acrobatic entertainment by Redmoon Theater for nonprofit One Million Degrees’ eighth annual Food & Wine Tasting at Morgan Manufacturing (401 N. Morgan) May 29.
The invite list: Hosted by Deb Gross and Rose Lizarraga, the party saw more than 450 guests sipping Champagne, devouring bites — by chefs like Thomas Lents of Sixteen and Matthias Merges of Yusho — and indulging in delectable desserts by pastry chefs Sandra Holl of Floriole Cafe & Bakery and Ji Yoon of Acadia. Mayor Rahm Emanuel attended as the honorary chair and Cheryl Hyman, City Colleges of Chicago chancellor, was given the OMD Civic Award for her leadership in improving community college education in Chicago.
The bottom line: The event raised $500,000 for tutors, financial aid and life-skills training to help low-income community college students succeed. OMD has assisted more than 250 Chicagoland students this year.
