The scene: On August 7 — the first week of World Cancer Support Month — this inaugural culinary competition fused philanthropy with fine dining at Morgan Manufacturing (401 N. Morgan), where more than 1,000 guests came together in the name of good food and great charities.
The invite list: The food-centric function, emceed by comedian and WGN-AM’s Patti Vasquez, kicked off with a competition, challenging chefs from 25 of Chicago’s top local restaurants to create the best original Latin-fusion dish — Dinner Lab won the People’s Choice Award and Q-BBQ took home the Judges’ Choice Award. After the competition, guests enjoyed rooftop access and a private Liquor Lab experience.
The bottom line: The $100,000 raised will benefit 10 participating charities — in addition to presenting charity Imerman Angels — all of which work to support cancer patients, survivors and family members. Imerman Angels is a one-on-one support community that matches cancer fighters or caregivers with someone who has fought and survived the same type of cancer.
I ate every single taco that was made for the competition and was so stuffed I couldn’t walk. Thankfully, my [friend] was there to carry me to my car!
