Ever After: Katie Kahn & Kevin Cassman

By / Weddings / February 3, 2016

Katie Kahn and Kevin Cassman grew up 20 minutes from each other in Chicago’s North Shore, but it took nearly three decades for them to actually meet. “We were at the same parties — Fourth of July, barbecues, birthday parties,” says Kahn, 28, marketing manager at Keno Kozie Associates, an IT partner for law firms. Their paths didn’t cross until May 2013, when they finally met at Butch McGuire’s (20 W. Division) through mutual friends. Two years later, Cassman, 29, manager of product operations at envisionit, proposed in their Bucktown home.

Living in the city and growing up in the suburbs, the couple opted for a January wedding that mixed both settings. With the help of her matron of honor Kelly Chrischilles, PR manager of The Langham, Chicago (330 N. Wabash), Kahn and her bridal party got ready in a 2,700-square-foot suite where scenes from FOX’s “Empire” have been filmed, before moving to the Lake Shore Country Club (1255 Sheridan, Glencoe) for the ceremony and reception.

Kahn’s brother, Adam, officiated the wedding, tying in funny anecdotes about the bride and groom. “When they’re together, they don’t change or filter themselves — right down to Kevin belting Frank Sinatra songs in the shower,” he said. “I’ve seen Katie through ice skating field hockey and even an ill-advised blonde phase, but I’ve never seen her more happy than when I see her with Kevin.”

After they were pronounced husband and wife, Kahn and Cassman walked back down the aisle to “All You Need Is Love,” an ode to Kahn’s mom — who passed away last fall — and her favorite movie, “Love Actually.” The 210 guests laughed and cried, says Kahn, making the ceremony all the more personal. “Everyone walked away feeling like they really experienced our story.”
