In a fitting tribute to the rich cultural and scientific contributions of African-Americans, the Black Creativity Gala raised $500,000 at the Museum of Science and Industry (5700 S. Lake Shore) Jan. 30. More than 500 guests turned out for the bash — chaired by Allstate Insurance’s Cheryl Harris and Northern Trust’s Linda Nolan — where they perused more than 100 original works of art from African-American artists. WMAQ-Channel 5’s Art Norman emceed the event, while partygoers noshed on a lavish buffet, including a chilled seafood bar and a build-your-own-pie station. The Opal Staples Orchestra and DJ Nick Nicholson performed and, later, the Black Creativity Innovation Studio offered a space for guests to craft their own pins and bracelets.
