Sarah Baker, holistic lifestyle coach and founder of healthy living blog Balanced Babe, is no stranger to hosting retreats — but her latest health haven is quite different. In the past, her one-day events have drawn up to 600 attendees, but the upcoming weekend-long Behealthful Spring Awakening Retreat is being kept to around 20. “It’s a lot more intimate than past events,” Baker says.
At the event — held at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago (120 E. Delaware) April 1-3 — attendees can expect over 15 classes, with topics ranging from nutrition and plant-based cooking to “ancient techniques with a modern twist” like yoga and homeopathic remedies.
Baker’s goal is for guests to build their own itinerary, choosing to attend as many or as few classes and workshops as desired. (Both day passes and overnight stays are available.) Whenever down time is preferred, attendees can enjoy pampering in the Beauty Break Room — hair, makeup, mini massages, facials, manicures and holistic treatments.
Retreat-goers need not abide by the typical weekend-downtown packing list, as the retreat encourages a minimalistic, judgment-free vibe. Baker suggests bringing yoga clothes (mats are provided), a journal and planner for creating goals, timelines and plans, a swimsuit for access to sauna, steam room and pool and camera phone for photos.
“It’s a weekend where [women] can let loose and be themselves — no one’s expecting them to be dressed up,” Baker says.
