Duck Dynasty’s Missy Robertson brings her resilient faith as the keynote speaker at the Tenacious Faith Women’s Conference April 29-30 (Calvary Church of Naperville, 9S200 IL-59, Naperville). Her faith and message of female empowerment are also exuded through her new jewelry collection, Laminin by Missy Robertson, which is crafted by women who have been rescued from sex trafficking, homelessness and addition. The collection includes a variety of unique pieces, adorned with natural stones, starting at $30.
SPLASH: Where did the idea for Laminin come from?
MISSY ROBERTSON: The idea for Laminin came out of a desire to help women who are much like I was (needing income to help support my family but wanted to be with my kids when they weren’t in school). It took a fork in the road that I honestly didn’t see coming inthe fact that we now mostly employ women who have challenging backgrounds. Some have been rescued from the sex trafficking industry; some are ex-drug addicts; some have been victims of homelessness or physical abuse. All of these women are in need of a new purpose, and they have found that new purpose at Laminin.
S: How do women become involved with Laminin?
S: What do the designs and aesthetics of your jewelry line mean to you?
MR: I feel a great connection with the designs of these pieces because they are very down-to-earth. There are lots of beautiful beads, natural stones, leather and silk that are not only nature-inspired, but [also] unique, feminine and bold.
S: How do you hope your jewelry will empower the women who wear it?
MR: The ladies of Laminin pray over every single piece of jewelry before it is placed into it’s ready-to-ship box. Knowing that you are wearing a high quality, eye-catching, stunning piece of jewelry that was handmade by women making purposeful steps to better their lives and the lives of the people around them — including their children — should make you appreciate not only the life you are fortunate to have, but feel good about being a part of helping other women achieve the same.
S: Do you have a favorite piece?
MR: Oh, goodness, I’d have to start with the Watermark collection. I love the blues right now. I also love, love, love the Halcyon collection with its pastel tones. Then there’s the White Sands collection with the very rustic Western feel.
S: What will you be discussing as the keynote speaker at the Tenacious Faith Women’s conference?
MR: I’ve come to realize that no matter what we have lived through in our lives, we all want the same thing: to be loved, wanted and accepted. Though people around us may not succeed in giving us what we need in that regard here on earth, God shows us over and over again how much he longs for us and wants to be with us. Your life may feel ordinary to you or the people around you, but God loves you extraordinarily.
