Thirty years ago, Frenchman François Pasquier organized a picnic to reconnect with old friends. The concept? Everyone brought a meal and a new acquaintance. The event spread around the world and, on Aug. 13, Chicago celebrated its fifth such city gathering at Queen’s Landing on Lake Shore Drive, where nearly 2,500 guests turned out wearing all white to mix, mingle, sip wine and feast together.
