Of all the fashion classics, none is as ubiquitous as denim. Time-tested and everyone-approved, it is, quite literally, the fabric that makes up America. On the fall runways, designers did denim differently: Balenciaga, Marc Jacobs and Miu Miu presented super-structured jean jackets; Creatures of Comfort and Stella McCartney sent out dresses; and Sonia Rykiel, Roberto Cavalli and Tommy Hilfiger put twists on the classic pant. Mix washes for a head-to-toe look, or use the material as an accent with a back-in-style jean purse or pair of sneakers — all the cool kids are doing it.
