Last spring, Tasos Angelopoulos asked his girlfriend Nicole Pahos to request a few days off from work for their annual summer trip. He told her they were going to California, but Pahos, 26, corporate trainer at Braintree, was skeptical. “Leading up to August, I started seeing international items around the house, like [outlet] adaptors and his passport,” she says.
“We were boarding and I still didn’t know where the end destination was,” she remembers. “He pulled out a travel book and the title was ‘Amalfi Coast, Naples, Sorrento and Capri.’” On the third day of their trip, Angelopoulos, 30, who works in business development at tech startup Uptake, proposed on a rainy evening in Amalfi.
A year later, the couple wore stefana — Greek wedding crowns — crafted by the bride while they said “I do” at Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church (11025 S. Roberts, Palos Hills). Later, their 350 guests continued celebrating at Chateau Ritz (9100 N. Milwaukee, Niles), where they feasted on traditional Greek sweets made by the bride and groom’s families.
