Stylish guests perused black-and-white photographs of influential women like Alba Clemente, Cyndi Lauper and Fran Drescher wearing the iconic 101801 oversized coat at the celebration of Roxanne Lowit’s exhibition at Max Mara (900 N. Michigan) Oct. 13. Attendees received complimentary monogramming with their coat purchases, and toasted the Italian fashion house’s 65th anniversary. The traveling photo exhibit also celebrates the release of two new colors for the 101801 coats: oatmeal and black.
It takes exactly 168 minutes to create the iconic 101801 coat: Machines laser-cut the fabric and expert seamstresses hand sew every stitch. Originally designed in 1981, the wide-sleeved, double-breasted coat became known for its drape silhouette, industrial structure and high-quality wool and cashmere. The coat has proven its staying power, becoming a staple for women on the go and inspiring a cult following of celebrities like Gigi Hadid, Katie Holmes and Kylie Jenner.
