All Chicago native Katerina Svigos, 29, had wanted since she was a child was a puppy. But on April 6, 2015, she got something even better: a proposal. After dating for over two years, Svigos, an office administrator at Medical Device, thought her boyfriend, Timothy Powers, 32, a vice president at J.P. Morgan, would wait until after he completed his MBA to pop the question. But Powers had a different plan.
After working a long week, Powers wanted to treat Svigos to an evening of relaxation to prepare for his secret proposal at Sasco Hill Beach in Connecticut. Svigos thought they were going to dinner; as she stepped out of the car with her eyes closed, she heard a faint puppy bark in the background she thought was her gift. But when she opened her eyes, Powers was down on one knee. “There was no puppy, just a ring and a husband,” she laughs. “It was amazing.”
Their Oct. 1 wedding and Roaring ’20s-themed cocktail hour at the Westchester Country Club in New York was full of family and unexpected moments of laughter. From the priest taking a selfie with the couple after their “I Do’s’” and the bride’s 87-year-old grandfather busting out moves on the dancefloor, to The Ernest Mills Band’s music which left guests chanting, “one more song” — the couple couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate their love. “Honestly, it was a perfect day,” the bride says.
As the night came to an end and guests said their goodbyes, they were treated to a Chicago-style hot dog from Walter’s Hot Dog Stand to pay homage to the bride’s Windy City roots.
