When it comes to setting a wedding date, many couples choose the venue first, others pick a favorite season. For former US 99.5 radio host Lisa Dent and her boyfriend of three years, third-generation farmer Brent Flesner, it was all about the entertainment.
“We love this band, [Captain Geech & The Shrimp Shack Shooters],” says Dent, 54. “From January 2016 to July 2017, the only date they had open was Dec. 10. … I was like, ‘I’ll take it!’ ”
So, on what turned out to be the first big snow of the season, Dent and Flesner, 57, were married at The Haight (166 Symphony, Elgin) with 150 guests gathered around them. Dent’s son Liam, 15, stood up for Flesner, while Flesner’s daughter Lana, 26, was the bride’s maid of honor. “The ceremony was spectacular,” Dent says. “There were times we were laughing and times we were crying.”
The music-themed reception was the perfect celebration for the couple, who, upon meeting at a restaurant in April 2013, spent the whole night dancing. The save-the-dates looked like Ticketmaster concert tickets, guests signed a guitar rather than a book and, as dinner wrapped up, there were earplugs and comfy shoes at the ready to make sure everyone hit the dance floor.
