Guests honored WGN-TV legend and philanthropist Merri Dee — one of the first women of color to be an on-air news anchor — at The Metropolitan Club (233 S. Wacker) March 1. More than 200 guests attended the event, hosted by local leaders including ComEd CEO Anne Pramaggiore, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and “Windy City LIVE!’s” Val Warner. To toast Dee’s achievements, YWCA Metropolitan Chicago CEO Dorri McWhorter announced plans to name a suite within the YWCA Laura Parks and Mildred Francis Center in Woodlawn the Merri Dee Healing Center.
