It was the day after Christmas, 2015. Theresa Wang was in New York City visiting her boyfriend Anthony Reganato’s family for the holidays when they stopped for a quick tour of Rockefeller Center. But on the way up, they had some trouble getting through security. “Every time Anthony went through the metal detector, it kept ringing,” remembers Wang, 33, a prosthodontist. “I [thought], ‘What could he possibly be carrying?’ ” Turns out, 37-year-old periodontist Reganato was carrying an engagement ring, and once they finally passed security, he proposed with the island of Manhattan as the backdrop.
At their wedding at the Waldorf Astoria Chicago (11 E. Walton) late last year, both the bride and groom’s fathers gave speeches. Wang’s dad opted for a more humorous approach, but Reganato’s dad had the room in tears. When Reganato moved to Chicago, his family would visit him from Long Island, but it was his dad who had trouble letting go when it was time to leave. “He would drive around the cul-de-sac where [Anthony] lived and make a few rounds because he didn’t want to leave him behind or have him be alone,” Wang says. “[In the speech,] he said, ‘Now he has Theresa, so I know he’ll never be alone.’ ”
