Patricia Theokas and Scott Szamatowicz have a self-proclaimed fascination with the universe, especially when it comes to weddings. “It’s such a rare opportunity to get all these people in the same space at the same time, celebrating this one moment in time,” says Theokas, 31, HR manager for commercial real-estate firm Transwestern.
So when it came time for their March wedding at the Adler Planetarium (1300 S. Lake Shore), which commenced with a Friday night welcome party at Second City, the couple channeled their passion for space into a “Starry Night”-themed affair, from the cocktail hour in the Solarium to the invitations and dessert designed with stars.
But one of the most memorable moments for the bride happened before the wedding even began. “My mom passed and she was a yoga instructor, so [my bridesmaids and I] started the morning with a yoga class,” Theokas says. “It [signified] how she’s out there in the universe somewhere watching.”
