The miniaturist painter’s big show, #ANTSinChicago, opens at The Annex (1620 W. Chicago) July 13. Best known for her project “365 Paintings for Ants” — she painted a mini watercolor piece each day of 2013 — Loots began crafting the roughly 2-by-2-centimeter watercolors, eventually makin a career of it. The paintings feature unique designs, from renditions of classic novel covers to planets from outer space.
For the first time, Loots is brings her work to Chicago with six local collaborations. Working with photographers Alinatsvor, Craig Hensel, NoPattern, Jason Peterson, Gareth Pon and Swopes, Loots painted original pieces inspired by shots of the city. All will be available through silent auction at the event — with proceeds benefiting CPS — in addition to 100 framed prints from her 2015/2016 collection. Silent auction from 6-10 p.m. July 13; exhibit runs through Aug. 18.
