In the fall of 2015, Grace Marsh thought something was amiss with her boyfriend of two years, Marcus Maier.
“He had been acting really weird for a couple of weeks, and I honestly felt like he was going to break up with me,” remembers Marsh, 28, senior publicist at Zapwater Communications. But then, one November afternoon, Maier, 27, a PA student at the University of Evansville, took Marsh to brunch at bellyQ (1400 W. Randolph) — where they had met nearly three years prior — and got down on one knee.
Prairie Street Brewing Company (200 Prairie, Rockford) was the perfect space for the country-meets-city feel Marsh wanted for their early summer nuptials; and wooden flower box centerpieces filled with hydrangeas, lavender roses, pink astilbe, curly willow and garden roses from Marsh’s family-owned Deininger Floral Shop, made the event a family affair.
But Marsh’s favorite moment was the exchanging of letters between her and Maier the morning of the ceremony. “The day was such a blur, and catching those nerves before the big day was something that I really wanted to remember forever.”
