After Stefanie Mirabile and Matt Kyprianides both swiped right on Hinge in 2015, it was Kyprianides, 30, a custom clothier at bespoke boutique Tom James Company, who made the first move. They shared a love of dancing (as noted in their profiles), so he naturally had to ask: “So you say you’re a dancing machine — what’s your favorite song to jam out to?”
Feeling the pressure to respond with something clever, Mirabile, 30, an account director at advertising and publishing platform Nativo, didn’t reply. “I was really struggling with my answer because I couldn’t say Justin Bieber or Beyoncé,” Mirabile remembers. A week passed before Kyprianides circled back with another try. “I should’ve just said ‘Hey,’ ” he laughs now. Weeks later, they went out on their first date, and just one year passed before Kyprianides proposed to his forever dancing partner during a weekend in Napa.
The bride and groom’s backgrounds were infused throughout their wedding day Sept. 9 at Chez Chicago (247 E. Ontario): They wore traditional Greek wedding crowns during the ceremony and their 145 guests feasted on Italian family-style pasta and a custom cannoli cake at the reception.
Mirabile says the most memorable moment came before she even walked down the aisle in her Vera Wang gown. The couple posed for pictures at Museum Campus with the skyline in the background and the waves of Lake Michigan crashing behind them. “I just remember holding his hand and looking at him and thinking, ‘This is so much fun — I can’t believe we’re about to get married.’ ”
