“Extra” host Mario Lopez came to town Oct. 21 to support breast cancer awareness and celebrate the nonprofit’s 20th anniversary at the annual pink bridge lighting and gala. Lopez joined Wintrust President and CEO Ed Wehmer in illuminating the Dearborn and Clark Street bridges in pink, before heading to the Westin River North (320 N. Dearborn) for the bash, emceed by NBC-5 anchor Zoraida Sambolin. The event honored those who have battled breast cancer or lost a loved one to the disease, including ABC-7 traffic anchor Roz Varon, Chicago Police Department Sergeant Melinda Linas and Illinois Senate President John Cullerton. The night raised $400,000 for breast cancer community grants and global research.
Get this: Get a mammogram, get rewards! Komen Chicago and Walgreens have teamed up to get 100,000 women in the city to earn 1,000 Balance Rewards points for completing their mammogram at a participating healthcare provider by Dec. 31. For every program voucher redeemed in store, Walgreens will donate $1 to Komen Chicago (up to $30,000) that will help fund mammograms for undeserved women.
