When Deerfield native Jennifer Ellenby was studying abroad in London in 2011, she had dreams of meeting her British soulmate. “I didn’t want to hang out with any other Americans while I was there,” she says. So when she met American David Savitt — who was from Long Grove, no less — she tried to steer clear. “At first, I avoided him like the plague,” laughs Ellenby, 27. But, apparently, you can’t mess with fate: The pair fell in love and, six years later, were married at The Standard Club (320 S. Plymouth) Nov. 18.
“The whole building has an old world, classic vibe, [so] we wanted the decor to be a reflection of the simple elegance of the venue,” the bride says. “We had candelabras lit around the room.” The couple, who are both lawyers, added some British touches, like passed fish and chips in newspaper cones at the cocktail hour. During the afterparty, Superdawg hot dogs were served, and dueling pianos paid homage to Chicago. But it was the new groom who stole the attention: “David crowd surfed not only once but twice,” Ellenby says. “I think it’s his proudest moment to-date.”
