The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s “Fund a Cure” family, the Carlsons, shared their touching story about son Wyatt’s Type 1 diabetes at the Illinois chapter’s 38th annual fundraiser at McCormick Place (2301 S. King) Dec. 9. Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Governor Bruce Rauner were among the nearly 2,000 guests at the event — co-chaired by Amy and Ken Aldridge — which raised a record-breaking $5 million to fund treatments for T1D, which affects 1.25 million Americans. Before the night came to a close, ’70s rock band STYX performed hits like “Come Sail Away” and “Lorelei.”
Get this: The JDRF Gala Program — which holds more than 100 fundraising parties across the U.S. per year — has raised over $924 million for T1D research since 1970.
