“Everyone we know who is also Greek does their engagement pictures in Greece, so I said, ‘Why don’t we do an engagement shoot in the desert?’ ” says 27-year-old clinical outpatient pharmacist Falakos.
Falakos and Kopsaftis, 33, a partner at GP Financial, chose the Red Sand Desert in the Persian Gulf coast city to be the backdrop for their engagement shoot in September 2017 (#GOALS). Falakos then met with Dubai-based designer Maison Yeya to pick a lacey white gown for the shoot. (Yeya will also be creating a custom bridal gown for the wedding). In a perfect act of fate, the couple’s wedding videographers — Australian couple Dawn and Karl Baroudi of I Do Cinema — were in town on their way to visit family in nearby Lebanon, and volunteered to film the behind the scenes of the shoot (see video below). “I loved the idea of a white dress and the contrast of the sand, but it was basically [the Baroudis’] idea,” Falakos says. It turned out so well, the couple used the video as their official wedding announcement.
True to form, the jetsetters’ big day will be just as lavish and exotic: In August 2018, they’ll say their vows in a boho chic-theme wedding in Paros and Antiparos, Greece.
