Who knew a love of cheese curds could bring two people together?
When Jeff Sheehy, 31, senior process and risk analyst at Grainger, first asked Kathleen Hagan out, he gave her options: “I offered [to] go to a bar, watch a Bulls game and eat cheese curds. … Or to take her to a nicer restaurant,” he remembers. “ She said, ‘I like cheese curds, let’s go there.’” It turns out, a mutual love for the tasty fried food was just the start: Three years later, in the summer of 2016, Sheehy proposed to Hagan, 27, associate director of content at marketing agency GLC, during a secluded walk at Starved Rock State Park.
On Dec. 2, the Logan Square couple took pictures with their bridal party on the Dearborn Street bridge and at Garfield Park Conservatory before tying the knot at Ovation Chicago (2324 W. Fulton). During the ceremony, they planted a tree as a unity symbol. “We took some soil from my parents’ and Jeff parents’ homes, symbolizing [our families] coming together,” Hagan says.
After saying “I do,” the two snuck away for a private drink together at nearby Goose Island Beer Company (1800 W. Fulton), then returned for the reception, decorated with string lights, glowing candles and succulents on each table.
