Nick Epstein’s mother knows a good thing when she sees one: She spotted Katie Sarau at a nail salon in May 2014 and thought she was just the woman for her son.
“I wrote my number down [for her] and kind of forgot about it,” says Sarau, 32. “Then Nick called two or three days later. We met for a drink, and he said his mom had been calling every day to ask if he had called me.”
While the couple’s Jan. 6 wedding date was partially based on the availability of their band, Rendezvous (one of Sarau’s favorites), the bride had always dreamed of a winter wedding.
“I have bad allergies eight months out of the year, and I have curly hair naturally so I don’t deal well with humidity,” laughs Sarau, a behavior analyst. The frigid temps didn’t keep their 190 guests from attending the elegant wedding at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago (120 E. Delaware), which blended traditions from Sarau’s Catholic background and Epstein’s Jewish faith.
