Who to Watch: Christine Nendick
The animal advocate raises awareness through Instagram
AGE: 29. LIVES IN: Old Town. GREW UP IN: Northbrook. CLAIM TO FAME: Nendick, who works in finance at Northfield Capital Group, combines fashion and animal advocacy in a blog and Instagram account, Rescue in Style (@rescueinstyle). In each post, she dons a stylish look and poses with an animal available for adoption at one of the various rescues around the city. ANIMAL INSTINCTS: Nendick first enrolled at the University of Illinois for pre-veterinarian studies. “But I fainted very easily during dissection and passed out during surgery at a local vet’s office,” she laughs. She changed courses, but continued to volunteer. THE BIG IDEA: “I was scrolling through Instagram and saw a few fashion bloggers with their dogs, but nobody seemed to do it consistently. A good friend of mine works at The Anti-Cruelty Society and, [early last year], I pitched her the idea of dressing up in high heels and glamming out with one of their rescues. From there it’s just taken off.” FUR FAMILY: Christine shares her home with her husband, two adopted cats and an adopted greyhound, Rawlings. She’s convinced her brother to adopt a chocolate lab, and her parents to adopt two mixed-breed pups. LETTING THE DOGS OUT: “I’m a patio lover, and Benchmark [1510 N. Wells] is super dog-friendly. So is Clark Street Ale House [742 N. Clark] in River North.” She also frequents Montrose Beach, which has a dog wash and activity area onsite. STYLE VIBE: “I’m all about comfort — everyday approachable,” Nendick says. She’d love to one day launch her own line and have the proceeds support an animal shelter. “I have so much more to do that I haven’t even started.”
