For attorney Ashley Bennett, 31, and physician Benjamin Reiss, 32, their journey to the altar began and ended with stunning views.
The two met at the Ohio State University when Bennett was an undergraduate and Reiss was in medical school. They later moved to Washington, DC, where Bennett studied at Howard School of Law and Reiss completed his residency. In 2015, their shared love for travel took them to Santorini, Greece, where Reiss proposed on a hotel rooftop with a view of the ocean.
They planned a Memorial Day weekend destination wedding in Chicago, where Reiss was born and returned to for an ophthalmology fellowship. The sweeping city vistas at Adler Planetarium (1300 S. Lake Shore Drive) provided the backdrop for their ceremony and also inspired the watercolor skyline motif on their invitation suite. Reiss donned a light blue suit and Bennett wore a unique keyhole halter neckline gown as a dear friend married them under a dramatic display of gold geometric pendants draped with white orchids. “I was just overcome with emotion walking down the aisle,” Bennett says. The reception’s agate-inspired color palette took the form of deep swirling blues and golds on everything from the table linens to the cake.
The couple honeymooned in Tanzania, where they climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and toured a spice farm in Zanzibar. They now reside in Seattle, where Bennett is an environmental attorney for Earthjustice and Reiss works for the Retina Institute of Washington.
