Call it a triple threat. FOUND Hotel has opened in River North and, with it, three distinct dining venues from L.A.’s visionary team, The h.wood Group. After building its name with starlet-frequented spots like The Nice Guy, Delilah and Bootsy Bellow, the West Coast team along with FOUND Hotels is making a scene in River North. Expect modish lodging for social travelers and restaurants where you can indulge any mood or appetite.
The tradition-flipping restaurant: From archetypal favorites like beef Wellington carved tableside and Dover sole, to modernized snacks like pigs in a blanket and monkey bread) Mason brings you back to the glory days of the supper club. Philippines-born chef Lord Maynard Llera channels American favorites while adding lavish flourishes, like caviar and truffle oil. Find your way to a dimly lit booth with a cocktail curated by beverage director Justin Campbell. Again, it’s old school with a twist with drinks like an old-fashioned and Champs-Élysées infused with apple Hennessey, yellow chartreuse and cardamom bitters.
The nomad-friendly hotel and coffeeshop: FOUND is a brand-new hospitality brand and this hotel, its first, is definitely out of the box. Everything revolves around local and social experiences. Imagine: rooms with bunk beds and shared quarters for the financially mindful. Business travelers will find an ideal remote workspace at the adjoining Mason & Mason coffeeshop, which serves fresh brewed coffee and pastries.
The songster’s paradise: Beneath the restaurant, you’ll be tempted to cut all your inhibitions loose at Blind Dragon. This karaoke club gone glam is adorned with Japanese accents and hot crimson hues and features private karaoke rooms and specialty cocktails like the C.R.E.A.M. (made with yuzu, shiso leaf, guava and egg white). Because, everyone knows you’re a much better singer after a drink or two.
