When Patrick Hogan, 29, proposed to Lee Battaglia, 27, on a horse-drawn carriage ride around Chicago, her cousin Paige was so excited that she nominated them for one of her favorite wedding shows, TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress.”
Hogan and Battaglia—who live in Bucktown and work in sales at digital marketing and consulting firms, respectively—had never seen the show. “She told me and I just laughed,” Battaglia says. “I didn’t think much of it.” Months later, they were selected for filming and Battaglia said “yes” to a Pnina Tornai gown with corset-style bodice, eyelash lace trim and rhinestone straps. “I told Randy [Fenoli] what I liked and didn’t like and he was able to pinpoint the exact dress that he knew would be perfect for me,” Battaglia says. “It was the first dress I tried on and I knew immediately.”
They wed in a traditional Catholic ceremony at St. Isaac Jogues in Battaglia’s hometown of Hinsdale (306 W. 4th) and celebrated at Butterfield Country Club (2800 Midwest, Oak Brook). And as luck would have it, when Battaglia tossed the bouquet, Paige caught it.
