Great food has been always been a shared love for River West couple Teddy Heidt, 29, and Ryan Arndt, 34. After meeting at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, they set off on foodie adventures while dating, from a catering side hustle to stints on the Food Network’s “Cutthroat Kitchen.”
Arndt, who works as assistant sommelier at Girl & The Goat, proposed to Heidt during a progressive dinner in the West Loop. After cocktails at The Aviary and dinner at Duck Duck Goat, Arndt brought Heidt to Fulton Market Kitchen under the guise of a wine tasting and instead surprised him with a proposal and engagement bash.
They hired Lindsay Mackey with The Simply Elegant Group to create a celebration inspired by Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent’s wedding at New York Public Library. “It was black-tie and in terms of floral and decor, it was minimal, classic and very masculine,” says Heidt, who runs his own digital marketing business, The Gauge Collective.
They chose Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan, for its timeless drama, opting for a ceremony in the elegant Grainger Ballroom and cocktail hour on the ninth-floor terrace with stunning park and lake views. A string quartet from Fretless Music mixed classical repertoire with the grooms’ personal picks, such as Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” for the processional and “Float On” by Modest Mouse for the recessional.
After a dinner of steak and truffle-roasted chicken, servers delivered cheesecakes from Little Goat Diner to each table in honor of the couple’s love for “The Golden Girls.” “We watch it every night before we go to sleep,” Heidt says.
