On January 24, more than 2,100 Chicagoans gathered in honor of one of their favorite things: food. Choose Chicago’s annual First Bites Bash, held at the Field Museum, served as the official kickoff to Chicago Restaurant Week. A record crowd turned out to experience tasting stations from more than 70 restaurants. Cohosts for the evening were Spiaggia’s executive chef and last season’s Bravo TV “Top Chef” winner Joe Flamm and the Aviary’s assistant bar director Jarmel Doss. The two presented a $10,000 check to Pilot Light Chicago, a nonprofit that helps children make healthier choices by connecting their classroom lessons to the food they eat every day.
