Matthew Downe’s proposal to his girlfriend Shannon Stockton got off to a rocky start — literally. Downe, 30, partner and creative director at Tall Tale Productions, took Stockton sailing on Lake Michigan, and they hit some unexpected waves. “He handed me the [ring] box and I put it on my finger the moment I opened it,” laughs Stockton, 28, director of sales at Trunk Club. “It could’ve gone overboard pretty easily.”
Their April 2 nuptials in the bride’s hometown of Wichita, Kansas, however, were smooth. After a ceremony at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (430 N. Broadway, Wichita), the 280 guests moved to the Wichita Country Club (8501 E. 13th, Wichita) for the reception. Some guests huddled outside by the fire pit as others witnessed Stockton’s uncle take over the mic to sing “Mustang Sally,” a tradition of the bride’s family.
The couple’s reception was capped off with a classic Wichita midnight treat: Pizza Hut.
