Their story begins in 2002 at La Grange Park’s Nazareth Academy.
Junior football player John Simpson IV saw Disa DiBuono, a freshman on the dance team, stretching by a bench outside. “I was kicking footballs to show off,” laughs DiBuono, 28, event producer at web hosting company INXPO. She got his attention: The two became friends and eight years later, their friendship turned romantic.
In May 2015, Simpson, 30, an attorney, took his girlfriend back to their old high school and got down on one knee. The newly engaged couple posed for pictures in front of the very bench where they met.
Their Sept. 10 nuptials and reception were held at Butterfield Country Club (2800 Midwest, Oak Brook). DiBuono’s mother, Tracey Tarantino DiBuono, owner of an event production company, choreographed a family dance to “Uptown Funk.” The bride, her twin, Darci, and their parents all got on the floor to show off the upbeat, disco line dance moves in front of 450 guests.
As the day came to a close, Darci took the mic to congratulate the newlyweds and pay homage to DiBuono’s love of fictional couples: “Tonight I toast to you, Disa and John,” she said, “may he be the Chandler Bing to your Monica Geller, the Chuck Bass to your Blair Waldorf and the Ron Weasley to your Hermione Granger.”
