These Chicagoans had the most beautiful Icelandic wedding

During her first date with Zack Gilbert in 2012, Kelsey Kreiling came down with a cold. “[We went to] a Of Monsters and Men show at Park West,” says the 29-year-old designer and co-owner of Presence Agency. “He gave me the appropriate amount of space and on day three, showed up to my apartment with three different kinds of chicken soup, two different types of crackers, a bottle of [orange juice] and a giant piece of chocolate cake. We’ve been together ever since.”

Their five-year relationship has been marked by adventure and travel (Gilbert, 33, an entrepreneur and web developer, even proposed after visiting wild geothermal pools in New Zealand). Their wanderlust carried into their wedding day earlier this year, when the couple returned to Iceland, where they’d had their first international trip together. The day — which was all caught on video via drone (see below) — started with a morning ceremony, followed by visits to a waterfall, crater and black sand beach, and a lunch stop at a tomato greenhouse. “We assigned the #kzlongestday hashtag to the event, and it ended up being a great theme for the adventure,” the bride says. “We got married on the solstice, [so] everyone showed up well aware it was going to be a full day.”

After the reception at Borealis Hotel in Selfoss, the newlyweds had a surprise for their 70 guests. “We all headed to a secret hot spring that we’d rented for the evening,” Kreiling says. “By the time we arrived, the party escalated and there were many illegal splashes going on.”

Once the wedding was over, the couple headed home to Logan Square. But it didn’t last long: A few months later, they travelled to Seattle, Vancouver, Whistler and Colorado for their honeymoon.
