On their first date, Chicago Public School teachers Erin Henry and Lucas Woolums — she teaches at Hyde Park’s Shoesmith Elementary and he at Collins Academy in North Lawndale — both 30, picked out books for one another at Ravenswood Used Books (2005 W. Montrose). More than seven years later, Woolums proposed by recreating that first date — only this time, he surprised Henry with a book he’d made. He typed their love story as the first chapter; in the back, he hollowed out the pages to hide a ring.
On their wedding day Jan. 20, the bride and her maids primped in plaid onesies at the Waldorf Astoria (11 E. Walton), while Woolums and his pals let off some steam at Bad Axe Throwing (165 N. Loomis). Later, their vision for a “dark, moody and sexy” celebration at Bridgeport Art Center’s Skyline Loft (1200 W. 35th) showed in everything from Woolum’s deep green velvet jacket to the oxblood and blue thistle florals from Fleur. —Lisa Arnett
