Triple Play

By Samantha Lande / Dining / Featured / Latest / May 10, 2019

Three new dining and cocktailing spots just opened under one gorgeous Fulton Market roof

You may not need another reason to visit Fulton Market. But you’ll gladly take one. Hey, even three. Boka group is behind the trio of food and drink destinations at the just-opened Hoxton hotel: a Peruvian rooftop escape, breezy Mediterranean all day café, and haute cocktail lounge.

“It’s just so bright and full of flavor. When you get a rooftop space you need food that is fun to eat,” says chef Stephanie Izard, talking about her colorful Peruvian-influenced spot.

Cabra (Spanish for goat) leans into pisco sours, bright ceviches, tiraditos, and empanadas. And of course there’s goat, including adobo, a favorite from Izard’s recent visit to Arequipa; it’s braised with chica morada, the juice from bright purple corn.

The decor is pure sunshine. Think floor-to-ceiling windows and two patios, one with a pool and one with a fire pit. Glass garage doors let the breeze in and greenery surrounds you. cabrachicago.com

Cira’s Duck Leg Confit with crispy rice, sour cherries, and toasted almond

Chef Chris Pandel takes the helm at this main-floor all-day spot. “It pulls inspiration from all the nooks and crannies of the Mediterranean Basin, allowing us to marry flavors and techniques that may not traditionally be found together,” he says, referring to items like Italian cheeses with North African sauces and Levantine marinades with southern French chickpea pancakes.

The space feels very coastal, with an open kitchen framed by turquoise tiles, and a clear view of Pandel cooking at the wood-fired hearth.

Local farms are highlighted on the seasonal menu. Sausage, breads, and pastas are made in house, and bold spice blends were created especially for the restaurant. Pro tip: Gather friends and try a sharable dish like the duck confit, crispy rice, macerated sour cherries, cherry agro dolce, and chicken skin dukkah — a sweet, salty, savory delight that serves four. cirachicago.com

Lazy Bird’s Hemingway Daiquiri

Get lost in this upscale, intimate 65-seat cocktail bar that has its own entrance on Lake Street underneath the L track. Beverage director Lee Zaremba created a beautiful leather-bound guide of 52 classic cocktails — one for each week of the year, complete with hand-drawn illustrations. Cozy up to the marble bar and listen to the live music that will occasionally fill the space. lazybirdchicago.com
